Ready for Spring

Sorry it's been a while since my last post. Between days off and the Spring-like temperatures, I've found myself rather busy. That's no excuse though.

I spent my days off working on a little outdoor project. If you've read my bio, you know that I'm an amateur radio operator. With the weather so nice recently, I've spent some time up on the roof installing an antenna. To talk on the ham radio bands, the antenna must be the appropriate length for the frequency you're using. So far, I'm running into issues with the readings I'm getting back as I test the antenna. Once it warms up again, I'll re-visit and eventually tackle the problem.

There won't be any warming this weekend. We're still watching the possibility of some light freezing rain or freezing drizzle overnight Sunday night into Monday and possibly even Tuesday. The precipitation amounts that we are forecasting don't look heavy but as you know, it doesn't take much to make everything an icy mess. Stay tuned for later forecasts. I'll talk to you more this weekend.

Welcome to 2009

After such a mild start to the weekend here in Wichita, things have certainly cooled off! I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or what but I have less tolerance to the cold this winter. Lately, I'm much more comfortable dressing in layers: wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt under my regular long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt. We haven't changed the thermostat at all at home. Pardon the pun, but dressing in layers seems to "fit" me well.

While we're chillin', the first rumblings of severe weather in 2009 have come in from the south. The first two severe thunderstorm watches of the year were issued yesterday by the Storm Prediction Center. While most of the reports were hail and wind, there was a tornado reported yesterday in Louisiana and also in Mississippi. Before you know it, we'll be in the thick of it too. We'll have to wait until Old Man Winter packs his bags...
