Fall Back

Don't forget to set the clocks back one hour tonight, before you go to bed as we return to Standard Time. It's also a good time to change the battery in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors too.

Still worried about the fire danger

Webcam view courtesy of kanoklacountry.com

The first picture is a webcam view from Pretty Prairie earlier this afternoon as a grass fire raged near Hutchinson. Due to the high winds, low humidity and dry ground, the fire continues to burn now as I write this, although it has been contained by fire fighters.

The second picture is how the radar looked today around 3 p.m. Note the wispy echo from just northeast of Hutchinson, down to near the southeast corner of Reno County. These two tools were how Merril and I were tracking the grass fires this afternoon. Of course, our news crews were hard at work on the scene.

Unfortunately, we don't have any rain in the forecast in Kansas until early next week. Between now and then, expect some gusty winds tomorrow and also this weekend. Hopefully we don't see a repeat of today's events.
