Sample of a cold front, via radar

Here is the Wichita Doppler radar image from just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.  This is the (base) velocity image, which shows wind blowing toward the radar (green) and the wind away from the radar (red).  Note the green that shows up southwest of Wichita until it gets to the radar site at Mid-Continent Airport then turns to red as the winds pass the radar and continue over the city.

At the same time, note the solid area of green that also shows up west of Wichita.  That is a northwest wind  behind a cold front (blue line).  I've also plotted (yellow) the temperatures around the area and you can see for yourself the dramatic drop taking place!  Hutchinson (not shown) has cooled from the 60s to the upper 40s in just a couple of hours!
